V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Goa's first Law College, was established in 1972 and is a pioneer in its quest for excellence in legal studies.

The College is permanently affiliated to Goa University and recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India for imparting professional education in Law. It offers three-year and five-year Bachelor's Degree in Law of the Goa University. It also conducts the LL.M. Master's programme and is a recognized Research Centre for grant of Ph.D. of the Goa University. The college has started a Foundation Course on Human Rights funded by UGC, a Certificate Course on Human Rights funded by UGC and a Certificate Course on Civil Law Studies in association with University of Lisbon, Portugal. The College has spacious classrooms, well equipped with OHP facilities for interactive teaching. In addition the college has a spacious staff room, conference hall, a very well equipped library, computer laboratory, canteen, sports and other facilities.

Since the first batch in 1976 till date, 2129 students have obtained the LL.B. degree.  From April 2003 till now, another 360 students have been conferred the LL.B. (Hons.) degree of the Goa University.  Among them there are many with spectacular achievements, both in Academics and at the Bar.

Currently, 277 students are studying for LL.B. (Hons.) (5-year course) of which 60 are finalists.   Another 306 students are studying for LL.B. (Degree) (3-year course) of which 73 are finalists. 79 students are registered for LL.M. and 12 for Ph.D.

The College has won various competitions at the National Level especially in the Moot Court category over the years.  Recently, the College participated in the 9th National Client Interviewing and Counseling Competition organized by The Kerala Law Academy Moot Court Society and were declared winners.
